XXIII BOARD GAME STUDIES COLLOQUIUM

The Evolutions of Board Games
13-16 April 2021 (online event)
The 23rd Board Game Studies Colloquium (previously scheduled for May 2020) will happen from Tuesday 13 to Friday 16 April 2021.

Although organized from Paris, the Colloquium will be entirely online, that is, in video conferencing.

33 speakers have confirmed they will participate, either ‘live’, or through a prerecorded video; a short discussion will take place after each paper.

The full programme and the registration page will be communicated soon.
The event is free, but you need to be registered, even if you do not present a paper.

We look forward to welcoming you at the first ever online BGS Symposium!
Welcome to the XXIIIrd Board Game Studies colloquium

The Board Game Studies colloquium is a 4-day online conference that will take place on 13-16 April 2021. It is organized by the laboratory EXPERICE (University Paris 13), Game in Lab and the LabEx ICCA.

The annual BGS colloquium is an interdisciplinary forum for scholars and practitioners from many fields and disciplines. This convergence allows game studies to be approached from multiple points of view: the research findings and knowledge disseminated in past colloquia have embraced archaeological evidence, cross-cultural connections, mathematical, psychological and social implications of past and present gaming practices.

The evolutions of Board Games

The theme for this edition is « the evolutions of Board Games ».
This refers to the transformations of board games in terms of material, game play or mechanics as well as the evolutions of the players, of the social spaces of play, or the ways board games are designed, crafted, sold or acquired.
